Even small changes to network equipment can lead to significant energy savings. This is the conclusion of the debate among leaders of the telco and data centre industry, organised as part of the XV Dni Światła in Warsaw. Experts also discussed 800G transmission deployments, network architecture optimisation and the increasing demand for bandwidth.

- The word crisis has entered our everyday vocabulary, but the telco industry is coping quite well with fate's challenges. We ended the year 2021 with 51.6 per cent of Europe covered by fixed-line internet (FTTH), and we doubled the coverage of the 5G network reaching 62 percent coverage across Europe,' said Marcin Bała, CEO of Salumanus, opening the XV Dni Światła conference, 11 October in Warsaw.

However, the industry is facing considerable pressure. It is forecast that already in 2023 the use of fixed lines will increase to nearly 500GB/month per user. At the same time, rising energy costs and the need to build energy-neutral network nodes are forcing continuous optimisation of the network infrastructure. During the XV Dni Światła, these challenges were discussed by representatives of Exatel, Orange, the Play Group, and Akamai Technologies, as well as Salumanus experts Marcin Bała and Jarosław Gorczowski.
