The implementation of 400 GBPS DWDM system between Cracow and Katowice

The launch of the DWDM system on the Krakow - Katowice route with a capacity of 400Gbps
2/2/22
Project designed and implemented by Salumanus in collaboration with S-NET.

Client’s profile:

S-NET is one of the largest Internet Service Providers in Southern Poland. The company offers innovative ICT services and provides cloud computing solutions.

Project description:

With the help of Salumanus, S-NET implemented a DWDM system (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) – an intercity system which works on the distance of approx. 112 km between Cracow and Katowice.

In detail:

The implementation of DWDM system required the use of two optical fibres. One of the two demarcation points was the main S-NET’s network node in Cracow and the other was 4DC’s collocation hub located in Katowice. The project was based on Raisecom and GBC Photonics’s products offered and delivered by Salumanus.

Benefits for the Client:

This solution enables the implementation of 40-channel 10Gb/s system, which can also operate at 100 Gb/s. It is designed first of all for the company’s own needs, but it is already known that the system will be also used by local and national operators.

The implementation of our own DWDM system between Cracow and Katowice is another step in the development of S-NET’s own network. Currently, the company owns several hundred kilometres of fibre optic cable on the area of Cracow and has its own nodes in Cracow, Warsaw, Katowice and Łódź. Building the first section of an intercity network enabled the company to satisfy the needs of operators from Małopolska and also the needs of S-NET.
